We built our home just about five years ago. One of the things that I wanted in our house was custom built-ins that would be classic, timeless, and roll with the trends.
We added custom built-in shelves, custom closets, and my favorite are these custom built-in window seats.
This pretty window seat is right under four gorgeous windows in our eat-in kitchen. I knew I wanted a long table that could seat 12 or more, and a window bench seat to flank the table was the perfect addition.
We have enjoyed this seat for all the years we have been here, but on my list of dreams were some cushions to help this space feel more cozy, custom, and even pretty.
My friend Lindsay over at Q Design Centre came in clutch with custom cushions that fit perfectly.. This window seat is really long so finding a cushion that would fit was quite challenging. I was so thankful that Lindsay could custom make one to fit.
We decided to go with 2 cushions to make shipping, cleaning, and maneuvering much easier.
How did this whole project start?
First off, Lindsay sent me fabric swatches to choose from. I could tell the quality of the fabric was amazing, and I really had a hard time narrowing it down.
How did I decide on the fabrics that were perfect for this project?
I first started by choosing the cushion fabric. I picked one that matched my paint color perfectly. I also love stripes because they have such a coastal feel. Our paint color is Sherwin Williams Sea Salt, but only at 25% strength; and this Tiny Stripe in Mist matches perfectly.
Lindsay also made me some pillow covers to add some texture, color, and design style to the window seat. I chose the print for these pillows from inspiration in my own home. I really wanted them to go well with the aesthetics of our space.
TIP: This is my tip for choosing fabric and home decor pieces. Let your home be your guide.
This one is inspired by the wallpaper in my home:
I chose white to match my white couches:

Once I chose my fabric, I measured my window seat down to 1/8 of an inch, and Lindsay set out to make them. I was super impressed as Lindsay double checked my measurements just to make sure it was all going to fit.
When they arrived, I couldn’t believe how perfectly they fit; just like a great pair of jeans!
I was so impressed with the amazing quality of these gorgeous cushions and pillow covers.
Lindsay did a great job at hiding the zippers.
I love knowing I can take off the fabric and wash both the cushion and pillow covers if need be.
My favorite part about these new gorgeous cushions is how cozy it is to sit here and chill out.
We had a great birthday dinner here this weekend for my husband and it felt so good to know that our guests were comfortable sitting here on the now cozy bench.
Do you have items in your home screaming for some custom love?
Check out my friend Lindsay over at Q Design Centre
She has so many custom products to choose from including; drapes, valances, pillows, and seat cushions. The best part is everything is made to order and custom.
I am so excited about this service, and can’t wait to order a few more custom items for our home. We have some fun big windows that could use some pretty valances or shades.
